Yoga for Teens

It’s no secret that teens and young adults feel stress and anxiety for a variety of reasons. Studies show using the tools of yoga to reset the vagus nerve (which helps control the parasympathetic nervous system – our rest and digest system) and bring mindfulness to the forefront can help alleviate anxiety in teens.

Offering opportunities for teens to learn pranayama (breathing techniques), yoga asana, and meditation can

  • Cultivate Self-Control
  • Improve Posture
  • Improve Flexibility
  • Develop Body Awareness
  • Increase Energy
  • Build Strength
  • Sharpen Concentration and Focus
  • Promote Better Sleep
  • Boost Mood

I work with high school teachers and local organizations to bring yogic practices to teens in a variety of settings and I would love to work with you too! If you are a teacher, parent or organization leader and want to learn how we can work together, contact me!

Kids Yoga

Children will move, dance, sing, and learn yoga through play!

A Harvard study states: Yoga and mindfulness have been shown to improve both physical and mental health in school-age children (ages 6 to 12). Yoga improves balance, strength, endurance, and aerobic capacity in children. Yoga and mindfulness offer psychological benefits for children as well.

I have work with PTAs/PTOs on after school enrichment classes, Loudoun County Public Schools PE teachers for Field Day, Loudoun County Public Libraries and more.

Topics I may include in class are (but not limited to):

  • Pranayama (breathing techniques for calming and/or mindfulness)
  • Beginner Yoga Poses and Sequences
  • Yogi Says (like Simon Says)
  • Taking Turns
  • Sanskrit (original language yoga comes from)
  • Incorporating Read-Alouds into Class
  • Being Kind To Ourselves and Others
  • Using our Imagination And MORE

Parent And Child Yoga (PreK)

Children will move, dance, sing, and learn yoga through play!

I use stories and adventures to introduce simple yoga shapes to our youngest learners, planting a seed of mindfulness and exploration! This class would be suitable for preschool aged children.

Please leave your expectations of “best behavior” at the door and allow yourself and your child to come as you are, moving in a way that connects with their energy level each day! As adults, we will model the poses and practice, but I have found that even when it seems like children are not engaged, they are still paying attention and tend to draw on what they’ve learned or seen once they are outside the classroom.  This is really an opportunity for you to move and play with your child and see the world through their eyes!

Topics I may include in class are (but not limited to):

  • Pranayama (breathing techniques for calming and/or mindfulness)
  • Beginner Yoga Poses
  • Yogi Says (like Simon Says)
  • Taking Turns
  • Listening
  • Being Kind To Ourselves and Others
  • Using our Imagination And MORE!

Bring your own mats (if possible) and dress comfortably. I do have a few mats to share, so let me know if you would like to use one!

Reach out with any questions you may have and I look forward to seeing you and your child on the mat!
